Please note that this course is only provided in German.This course provides insights into potential professional fields of activity, both at home and abroad. At the beginning, students with major in Cultural Studies/European Ethnology will search for an internship on their own initiative, whereby the possibilities for practical work experience can be wide-ranging – including with a cultural event organizer, in a media editorial office or production company, a theater, a publishing house, a museum or in an archive, in public administration or at further education institutions. In this course, great emphasis is placed on intercultural competence in everyday and professional life, promoted through exchange with experts working in the cultural sector, both in the academic and artistic fields.
The course is held in cooperation with guests from the field and other cultural institutions, who present their professional environment, draw attention to basic job requirements/necessary qualifications and explain the connections between academic training and its application in practical professional contexts. Preparations are also made for entering the world of work, e.g. through practical lessons on CVs and motivation ketters. However, the focus is on direct exchange with an array experts and joint reflection in a classroom setting. Through excursions in Mainz and guest lectures, you will get to know the areas of responsibility of the respective institutions. The experience gained during the internship will be reflected on in the course and used for later professional orientation.
