Gesellschaft für Volkskunde in Rheinland-Pfalz

The Gesellschaft für Volkskunde in Rheinland-Pfalz (Society for Folklore in Rhineland-Palatinate) was founded in 1986 with the aim of promoting cultural anthropological work in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Its headquarters are at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. The society sees its most important task as a non-profit in:

  • initiating or supporting scientific projects,
  • arranging research contacts within the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate and beyond,
  • releasing relevant publications and
  • promoting the next generation of academics.

Since its inception, many graduates of the Department at Mainz University have joined the society. They maintain their connections and friendships from their student days at the annual general meetings and on regularly offered excursions and are also happy to pave the way for younger generations in the subject area. In addition, the circle of members is constantly enriched by other interested parties, who above all seek out personal discussion on subject-specific questions and appreciate the opportunities for further academic training.
